Dermatology (Skin)

Skin problems are common in all animals and can have a variety of causes including hormonal disorders, allergies, infections, or parasites such as fleas and mites. If your pet starts scratching, develops any bald patches, has any redness, scabs or scaling or develops any new lumps or bumps, then addressing these promptly is recommended.

We can often diagnose a skin problem by simply examining your pet. Depending on your pet’s symptoms and the results of our physical exam, we may run blood work or perform a urinalysis, skin scraping, or take samples (fine needle aspirates and biopsies) to submit to the lab.

Like people, our pets can develop various lumps and bumps, commonly in their older age. Many are harmless, however, any new lump should be assessed by your veterinarian and monitored for changes in size, shape or firmness, as well as rapid growth.

If you feel that your pet is uncomfortable or that their skin or coat is not at its best, then contact us at (250)-545-8200 to make an appointment.
